Local organizer Katy Jewett Malone has declared her candidacy in the race to oust Joan Huffman. If you are not familiar with Katy, she grew up in HD 134 and in 2017 she worked with grassroots organizers here in Congressional District 7 to help us learn the tools we needed to organize to defeat then Rep. John Culberson. (Now represented by Lizzie Fletcher : ) Many of us had our first (or refresher) VAN training, attended our first phone bank or block walk, were given our first lesson about the campaign cycle by Katy. Once we were rolling, she helped learn the skills to host bigger events, before she moved on to work in Iowa in 2018. This is all to say that this woman knows Houston and she knows about field organizing. Come hear from her about her plans for SD17 and her plan to beat the one misrepresenting us in Austin presently.
